"Italy Factoid"

Eighty percent of Italians claim to be catholic, but only ten percent practice their religion.  The church has lost ten million to new age thinking, the occult and materialistic secularism.

La Piazza Press

La Piazza Press is our monthly newsletter that we use to keep everyone informed of our progress as missionaries with Saint's Equipped to Evangelize in San Lorenzo, Italy.  Our vision is to see the piazzas (town squares) filled with evangelical Christians.  Would you be willing to share in that vision?  If so, please click the Subscribe button above to receive our monthly newsletter.  For more information, you can visit our website at www.littlesitaly.com

Current Happenings - August 12, 2007

Maureen attended a wedding in July of one of our old college and career students from Sunrise Community Church.  We had a class of mostly boys who affectionately called her Mama Mo.  It was awesome to be with all her 'boys' again.  She leaves Pennsylvania this Thursday heading for the Atlanta airport and Italy.  The last two weeks has been busy with last minute details, packing, and saying goodbye to family and friends.  It has been bitter-sweet.  Thank all of you so much for your prayers as we have gone through these last two months of transition.  We certainly have needed them!  Satan has tried to discourage us in so many ways, but our Lord has strengthened us at every turn.  We learn lessons in the school of suffering that we can learn in no other way.  2 Corinthians 12:9 - My strength is made perfect in weakness.  Our greatest family blessing this summer has been hearing that our grandsons asked Jesus into their hearts and seeing our daughter Brittany seek a closer walk with our Lord.  Thank you Jesus!

From the Italian Front

The last summer team left Italy this week and Tom is quickly shifting gears to prepare for the fall semester of Saints Bible Institute.  The students will be arriving at the beginning of September and there is much to accomplish between now and then.  Before we shift gears, however, we wanted to share some summer team highlights.

  • Tract distribution has had an amazing result.  Six new visitors attended our church services this past Sunday in Udine after receiving and reading the tracks.

  • Not only were Italians ministered to, but we also had two Romanians come to Christ, and had some long witnessing conversations with a few Muslims.

  • The last two summer teams, McGregor Baptist and Christian Life Center, worked in and around Udine in support of existing churches and our church plant. One of the highlights of both the teams was ministering to the kids at a local playground. This type of ministry is so rewarding as kids are a captive audience. They watch the puppets, mimes, and hear stories related to the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. As the kids are entertained the parents are sitting in the background listening to the same words.  We offer tracts to the adults and open conversations that lead to invitations to the church or even discussions about salvation.

  • Two team highlights stand out.  The first is hearing team members say that NOW they understand the need in Italy for more missionaries, more evangelism, and more personal and church involvement with the SEE ministry.  The second is the inspiration of the young adults on the summer teams.  It is exciting to see how exposure to missions at an early age results in hearing teens say how they are praying for the LORD to show them how, when, and where they can plug in to missions.

 August Schedule

Tom is transitioning from being a traveling mission team leader to his administrative duties with S.E.E.  It is amazing all the details it takes to run a multi-faceted mission.  (Just like running a car dealership!)  He is currently reviewing the various systems and documents and learning how everything works together as a whole.  Between the church plant, Saints Bible Institute, English as a Second Language School, and the various outreach events; there is a lot to learn.  Pray for patience!  Maureen will arrive in Italy August 20th and will begin preparing for the ESL classes.

Support Update

The Lord has given us 100 prayer partners and 56 financial partners.  We praise the Lord for all of you!  Our monthly short fall is $777.   We are now drawing our monthly support.  Any amount you could give would be greatly appreciated.  We will be hard pressed to do all that the ministry requires without it.  Please pray about your involvement in reaching the Italian people for Jesus.

To become apart of our financial support team, make your check payable to Saints Equipped to Evangelize.  Put our names on the memo line and indicate whether it is a special or monthly gift.  All contributions are tax deductible.  Mail your check to:

Prayers

Maureen is on her way to join Tom in Italy. We will learn Italian quickly and be able to communicate the love of Jesus to the Italians.
Six new visitors to the church plant in Udine. God would continue to raise up monthly supporters.
The success of the short term missions teams this summer in their witness for Jesus Christ. Travel mercies for Maureen's trip to Atlanta and on to Italy.  Especially pray that her back will hold up.
