"Italy Factoid"

Pasta, one of the world's most consumed foods, was invented in Italy. It's also their national dish! Each Italian consumes more than 25 kilograms of pasta in just one year.

Ministry Highlights - August 29, 2008

Summer teams are such a critical part of our ministry!  This summer we had 45 people come and serve during our evangelistic outreach events. They hit the streets running distributing tracks, performing mimes, conducting puppet shows in the park, and many other activities that support our church plant in Udine.  Here is just one of the many highlights that demonstrate how effective this ministry is.

McGregor Baptist Church from Ft. Myers, Fl met a group of high school boys in a park and a 'pick up' game of US football ensued.  They met 3 consecutive afternoons.  After the last game, they shared pizza together and had a conversation about Jesus and salvation.  Relationships were built and our church plant is following up.

While Maureen was is Pennsylvania, she invited Elena, a 17 year old ESL student from Italy to our cabin for two weeks. This was an awesome opportunity to share and live the gospel.  Elena attended East Swamp Church twice and went to a VBS/Music Camp presentation.  A clear gospel message was presented which gave Maureen an open door for discussion.  Elena said she believes Jesus died for our sins but isn't sure about heaven or hell.  Maureen asked her, "What would be the purpose of Jesus dieing for our sins if there wasn't a heaven or hell?"  Elena said she needed to think about that for awhile.  Many seeds were planted and Maureen is looking forward to following up with her.  They also attended the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA for a Christian presentation of "In The Beginning" portraying the events in Genesis.  One weekend East Swamp church invited children from and intercity church to a 'Day in the Country'.  Maureen adopted two little girls for the day.  Altogether she had Elena, our two grandchildren, and the two little girls from Philadelphia.  This was a great experience for Elena to see that not all of the USA is big and rich...there is another side and we all need to do our part.  Maureen took her to New York and Washington, D.C. for some sightseeing.  In NY, they also met up with Ruthie, one of the ESL instructors from Italy who was home in NY for the summer.

Personal Highlights

We praise the Lord so much for the opportunity to come home for a visit this summer.  Maureen was able to spend 10 days in Florida with her mom, get all her doctor visits done, and spend some quality time with our grandchildren in PA.  Tom came home for the last two weeks in August so that we could attend a missions conference at East Swamp Church.  We were guest speakers and were able to share about our ministry in Italy.  We had a great time and it was awesome to get some good old American cooking...NJ corn and tomatoes, yum!

Maureen has applied to 6 insurance companies for health insurance.  This has been very stressful for her and time consuming.  Please pray that one of them will accept her and the price will be reasonable.

September Schedule

Tom returns to Italy September 1 and Maureen returns on the 7th.  English classes begin at the end of the month and we will have lots of preparation.  Two instructors from last year are returning for the fall semester, Becky and Ruthie.  It will be really nice to have some experienced staff who already have contacts they have been witnessing to.  God is so good!

Support Update

The U.S. economy has affected our monthly support which has been reduced to 76% of our monthly need.  Our short fall is $1,147.  Please pray that the Lord will provide additional monthly support.  Regardless of the U.S. economy, Italy is still in need of the Good News!

To become a part of our financial support team, make your check payable to Saints Equipped to Evangelize.  Put our names on the memo line and indicate whether it is a special or monthly gift.  All contributions are tax deductible.  Mail your check to:
